My name is LILLY. I’m a Shetland pony and I am 7 years old. I was rescued from market on the same day as Ginger, my very special friend, although I was not as badly treated and frightened as he was. I cost Janet £8 to buy. All I can remember about that time is feeling ill, in pain and unwanted. I didn’t know where my mother was. I needed her. I was only four months old and far too young to be weaned. My hind legs knocked together when I walked and my jaw was what they called undershot. It all made it difficult for me to try and eat. I curled up in a ball at the market and just wanted to be left alone, to die in a corner. Janet brought me back here to the Sanctuary. Little did I know that my short life was about to change fantastically. This man arrived who checked me all over; he was very quiet and kind. He told Janet that he thought I wouldn’t survive. Well I wasn’t about to let this chance slip by me and neither was Janet. Ginger and I needed each other. I was determined not to let him down. We got better, bigger and stronger together. As you can see from my photo I survived extremely well. We live with Dumpling now, another Shetland, she is our friend. We all have our own warm stable at night. We share our field with some of the sheep. The ducks, geese and hens come to visit us during the day. I want to stay here at the Sanctuary. I wish my mother could have come here too. I don’t know what happened to her. Please sponsor me.
