Jane the Turkey

Hello my name is Jane.

Hello, my name is Jane and I am about five months old now.  I lived in a shed with a lot of other turkeys until the day ten of us went to this place called a market.  It was a nightmare populated by callous, rough, loud, de-sensitised people who had only their own interests at heart.  I had a label attached to one of my legs and it kept tripping me up.  These people thought that was hilarious, I didn’t.  We all had to be weighed, we knew what for, we could sense it.  The ten of us were at least kept together and we tried to give each other some support but the whole thing was terrifying.  It is when you know you are going to die.  We watched the other turkeys being sold and taken away.  I just don’t want to think what happened to them.  Miraculously we were sold to Janet, we didn’t know her at the time, but we certainly do now.  What a wonderful person to brave the horrors of that place to try to rescue as many of us as she could afford.  She bought two pigeons and some hens as well that day and we all came here to the Sanctuary.  For us the most marvellous place in our small experience of the world.  We have another shed to live in now but a much cleaner one with better and more varied food.  We can go outside when we want through the day.  It’s quiet here and doesn’t smell and we are all together, our group of ten friends.  I want to stay here for the rest of my life which will be a much longer one now and a much happier one.  Please sponsor me.
