Born the smallest of triplets – in fact the tiniest lamb we have ever seen weighing in at two and a half pounds – eight months ago, Snowdrop was rejected by her mother. Taken into the care of Puppa the dog and Janet she was bottle fed but was absolutely determined to be with her mother and siblings in their pen in the barn. So Snowdrop spent the day with her family and the nights in Janet’s bedroom. It really was touch and go to see if she would survive and thrive. We now feel confident that Snowdrop having survived very well is certainly thriving and whilst still small for her age has caught up with her siblings quite dramatically. She views Janet very much as part of her family and views Rich Tea Biscuits very much as part of her diet!

Adam the Lamb

Adam’s compassionate rescuers took him from the field where he was laid next to the remains of the bodies of his mother and sibling. They had died from starvation and had been partly eaten by foxes. He would very probably have met the same fate if he had been left. Bottle fed for several months Adam is now a happy, confident, growing lad. His group of friends includes all of last year’s rescued lambs who Adam has grown up with – Minnie, Ali, John and Annie.

Christian the Welsh Mountain Foal

Found at the back of a pen at Henley-in-Arden market being pushed around by two bigger, healthier foals, Christian looked absolutely dejected and ill. Bought by Janet for £30- the dealer came down from £40 – seemingly these foals are selling for £1 in Welsh markets – at around five months old Christian had obviously been taken from his family herd in the Welsh hills. He was very frightened, not used to being handled and full of worms. Three months on and he is now very confident, cheeky, happy and worm free! Janet is waiting the arrival of a friend for Christian his own age also rescued from another market.

Francis the Sheep

Following Adam’s arrival at the Sanctuary Janet decided to investigate the field and the farmer who was responsible for the gross neglect of his sheep. Tracking the farmer down was not difficult and on the first visit to his premises Janet came back with Annie the lamb. Her mother had died and Annie was not thriving she was just put in a pen with an old ewe who understandably was not really interested in her. The farmer agreed to let Janet have the old ewe as well and she went back for her with the trailer. The old ewe is Francis and since coming to the Sanctuary she has put weight on and her general health with a lot of special care has vastly improved - she would other wise have gone for slaughter or just died in her pen. Francis is a very pleasant, un-demanding girl and very obviously just loves her new surroundings, new lease of life and new family.
