Easter the Lamb
This small lamb, about two weeks old, was found in the Forrest of Dean under a bush, entirely on her own, by birdwatchers who very kindly brought her to the Sanctuary. That was on Good Friday so we decided to call her Easter. She spent the first few days being bottle fed and living in Janet’s bedroom with Beatrice the Alsatian who was recovering from an operation on her leg. Beatrice made a fantastic substitute Mum for Easter with them both snuggled up together, Easter with her nappy on to spare the carpet! After a few days of this Easter very definitely wanted to move on. She spent a few hours in the barn and the top paddock each day with the bigger Boys and Girls who had all been born a few weeks earlier. She now lives with the bigger Boys and Girls but remains much attached to Beatrice and to her bottle. You will see that the tips of Easter’s ears are missing. At a very early age she will have had these cut off by her farmer/owner as some farmers in the Forrest of Dean choose to ignore the law that all sheep must have ear tags as a means of identification and use this “traditional” method instead.
