Freedom the lamb
Abandoned in a field in Northamptonshire, Freedom was rescued by two of our supporters and has been with us for a month. She is about ten months old and crippled by some sort of long standing back injury. Her chances of ever walking normally are nil. At first Freedom was terrified of humans but, one of our very elderly ewes took Freedom under her fleece and convinced her that the ones at the Sanctuary are all OK. Sadly that old girl has since died. She had been with us for many years. Freedom is now much stronger, can walk around the barn under her own steam spending most of her day contentedly eating from one of the tubs of dried grass. She is having Bowen Therapy – special massage treatment – for her twisted spine. She does not appear to be in any pain. She watched Janet giving Archie biscuits and moved over to try one. They have become one of her favourite treats. Janet says, “Freedom is a bright little girl and very cheerful. We can stroke her now.”

Hope the Sheep
Hope arrived at the Sanctuary ten days ago. She was found locally collapsed by a stream – her head almost in the water. At first we thought she was dead. She was extremely weak and hypothermic. Within twenty four hours she responded to all our efforts to warm her up and to food and complimentary medicine. Although still very weak she stood up her second day here and gently touched Janet’s face with her nose. Hope is about two years old and may be due to lamb in about seven weeks time if the lamb/s is still alive – we don’t know yet. She is having a huge bowl of porridge with golden syrup every day, and antibiotics. Hope is still extremely weak and there may be some underlying illness that neither we nor the vet has detected yet. However, she has been called Hope for a reason. So watch this space.
