Moto the White Park Ornamental Cow

Mootoo

At the start of the winter Mootoo looked unwell and was not eating. So we moved him up into one of the top pastures near the house. He has been enjoying extra feeds of hay and a good supplement of sugar beet with barley. He did not want to come into the barn but has a huge hedge to shelter under. Mootoo was bottle fed by his rescuer as a young calf and he comes for his feed when we call him. He is an old boy now, 16 to 17 years but has responded very well to his additional care this winter. Once the spring shows signs of arriving he will rejoin the herd in the bottom fields.

Sad Goodbye

Hope the sheep who came to the Sanctuary last month in a collapsed state died in her sleep in the barn two weeks ago. She spent the last few days of her short life in warmth and comfort surrounded by her new family. Hope was extremely ill when she was found. We did all we could for her and she let us, she was a very trusting girl, but sadly it was not enough.

New Arrivals

Molly and Mandy the sheep

Molly and Mandy

Molly and Mandy are a mother and daughter who came to us two weeks ago. They are tow large and very woolly girls who had been kept as pets. Molly is an Oxford Down and Mandy, her daughter, is and Oxford Down Rutland Cross.

Adam the lamb

Adam

Adam has been with us a week. He was about a week old when he arrived. He was found in a very distressed state standing next to the body of his mother in a field of dead sheep and lambs who were then being fed on by foxes. The sheep and lambs had died as a result of gross neglect and seemingly, according to Adam’s rescuers, this happens every year on this particular farm. The Sanctuary has made a formal complaint to Trading Standards. Adam is thriving and has found a new hero in the shape of Archie the sheep who had his leg amputated before Christmas. Adam went straight into Archie’s pen and the two of them are happy together.
