anya the horse

Anaya

Anaya is an old horse and has been with us for most of her life. Due to the very wet winter she has developed an abscess on her foot. Her foot has been treated by the farrier and is now having a complimentary medicine called Pro Feet applied which promotes growth and strength of the foot. We hope that she will soon be back in the field with her companions Charlie and Arnie. Pro Feet is supplied to us by Natural Animal Feeds who have very thoughtfully donated a supply of Joint Oil. We use this to treat the sheep who have arthritis.

Thank you Natural Animal Feeds.

Buttercup the cow attacked

Buttercup was violently attacked during the night last month. She must have been lying down quietly chewing her cud or asleep when an unknown person used a great deal of force to inflict a wound just above her tail. The wound was six inches across and one and a half inches deep. There was so much flesh missing that the vet was not able to stitch it. That is if he could have got near her. Understandably Buttercup wasn’t letting anyone near her not even the people she knew and had trusted. She rolled her eyes and snorted if we tried to approach her. Not at all the calm, trusting and affectionate animal we knew as Buttercup. She cannot move her tail as a result of the attack and may have to have it amputated. Initially the police were not interested but they have now changed tack and patrol the village and the lane by our fields during the night. The eighth day after the attack Buttercup let us close enough to look at the wound and to spray it with antibiotics. So far amazingly the wound is not infected and is very slowly healing. In herself Buttercup is much better, grazing, chewing her cud and will let Janet and Louise touch her.

On A Happier Theme

bridget, danny and kazza the lambs

Bridget, Danny and Kazzy three of last year’s orphaned lambs have grown and thrived. Bridget is a cheeky tyrant towards the boys, Danny is very affable and handsome, and Kazzy is no longer nervous always first in line for biscuits.

louise the pig

Louise the pig, who arrived last month to live with us for the rest of her life, is just a wonderful personality. She runs and skips to great us, adores her wallow and chats to Leo through the hedge. She has settled extremely well and is a lovely, happy, sociable girl. She does need a sponsor. Read her story on her personal sponsor page.

Fundraising

Like most small charities the Sanctuary runs on an extremely tight budget to say the least. We do constantly need people to raise funds for the animals here. If you could organise an event in your area,a coffee morning, a street collection, a yard sale to help with our funding that would be a fantastic help. Thank you. Please contact us.
