Skippy the Kitten
Skippy was found in a skip full of rubbish along with one sibling, who was so badly injured that he/she died, when he was about two days old. He was brought into the Sanctuary. Janet and Puppa the dog both have a lifetimes experience in caring for small lambs but something as tiny as Skippy was an unknown entity for them. Puppa spent an anxious and sleepless night concerned if Skippy didn’t move and Janet spent an equally sleepless one feeding Skippy every hour - so help was enlisted in the form of vets, advice from Cat Protection and foster parents Dave and Kaz, both helpers and supporters of the Sanctuary. Six extremely anxious weeks later and Skippy is thriving and putting on weight, doted on by his foster parents who have given him a permanent home for life and his various uncles and aunties at the Sanctuary.
Stargazer
And remembering that we are a Farm Animal Sanctuary, Stargazer arrived a month ago. She was bred in Scotland and was born blind. The farmer felt sorry for her and did not want to send her for slaughter so he arranged, via a family member, to take Stargazer to a children’s petting farm in Essex. However, the owners of the farm didn’t want Stargazer because she put her head on one side and walked round in circles and they didn’t want the children to see a blind lamb. So, they missed out on a sweet natured girl and the farmer brought her to us where Janet explained that far from having a brain tumour, as suggested by the petting farm, Stargazer, like our wonderful Daisy, was putting her head on one side to listen and would initially walk round in circles to get her bearings. She has most certainly got her bearings now and, until next spring, lives happily in one of the large open barns with some of our more elderly sheep.

Tilly the Basset
Garland and Gamble our two very elderly Bassets both diagnosed with inoperable cancer, were euthanased within days of each other last month. They had both been rescued and so Janet decided to find another Basset to take their place. She went to see Tilly who lived near Manchester and whose owners wanted a good home for her having been told that she would never make a show dog or should be bred from as she was not a perfect Basset. She had been very well cared for and spayed. She is thirteen months old and is a very lively, happy girl. Rosie and Ruby the two Douges just love her and they spend hours playing together.
