Ten months on and Arnie has flourished becoming a very sociable lad after his initial naughtiness chasing people and knocking buckets out of their hands. He is having treatment for a long standing foot problem which does not give him any discomfort except when he is standing on hard surfaces which Arnie does not do very often. He shares a large field with the rams and Alice the horse. His other much older chums, Mattie, Charlie and Anaya are spending the winter in doors in one of the large barns.

Freedom

At six months old left behind in the field by the farmer, when he moved the other sheep, because she couldn’t walk, Freedom was rescued by the compassionate people who had been monitoring her care or rather lack of it. Ten months on and Freedom’s spine deformity still prevents her from standing on her own but with help, once she is up she has no difficulty in getting to where she wants to be in the barn. She is a sweet natured and contented girl living with her group of elderly sheep and Gertrude the ancient Angora goat.

Stargazer

Stargazer’s farmer owner did not want her to go for slaughter – she is blind – so he did the best he could for her taking her to a Children’s Petting Farm. However, the farm owners decided they didn’t want her because she walked round in circles with her head on one side and thought it would upset the children. Stargazer does this because she is listening – her most developed sense. Four months on and she has most certainly settled here at the Sanctuary. She lives with Daisy the blind ewe and her lamb Dinah who is not blind in one of the top paddocks. Dinah and Stargazer have formed a great friendship both are six months old. They are a very happy trio.

Skippy

Although not a farm animal we felt Skippy and his wonderful foster parents Caz and Dave deserve a special mention. Found in a skip at about three days old Skippy has not only survived but thrived and grown. Five months on and Caz says, We still can't believe how far he has come in this short time, he was just 5 days old and weighed four ounces when he came to live with us. He was litter trained by 5 weeks and weaned by 7 weeks. He has fitted into the household so well, he chases our two older cats and is best friends with our 12 month old border collie and most nights can be found chewing the collie's cheek or hanging off his tail. He is very vocal, cheeky and mischievous and soon lets us know if he wants something. Despite some people's doubts of his survival, he has been a true fighter and we never gave up hope. We really could not have raised him without the invaluable help and guidance of Jan and her staff at Evesham Cats Protection. And also thanks to Janet at the Sanctuary for letting us take him on. Our home would be very quiet without him now and it feels like he has always been with us.
