Gilbert goose

Gilbert the goose

Gilbert, the handsome gander arrived here in 2011. He had been rescued by a Good Samaritan, who bought him from a Christmas Livestock Market as a companion to his rescued goose. Gilbert was meant to be Christmas dinner for someone.

For a few years, lucky Gilbert lived a charmed life with his partner, until a fox broke into the enclosure and killed her.

His owners, afraid that the fox would return and kill him asked if we would take him and keep him safe.

He was a feisty lad when he arrived, he blamed everyone for what had happened.

Over time he came to trust Ann and Kirsty, two of our volunteers. He has calmed down, he follows them around, eats from their hands, enjoys a shower beneath the hose pipe, and has become almost friendly towards some people. A brave lad.
